LINK – Linking Children to the World and Community, provides an opportunity for all children to participate in a range of broad experiences within the community.
Wynnum Family Day Care & Education Service provides the LINK program to all children in care when attended with their educator as part of their weekly experiences.
The United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child are embedded throughout the program. It states that children have the right to meet together and join groups and organisation as long as it does not stop other people from enjoying their rights. In exercising their rights, children have the responsibility to respect the rights, freedom, and reputations of others.
LINK activities are meaningful and relevant to the participants, using the voice of the child, families, and educators to drive the program. This collaboration saw sessions of music, gymnastics, yoga, multisport, fitness, art and dance being established. We believe these relationships are imperative to maintaining quality outcomes for the children.
LINK locations support environmental awareness and responsibility that reflects the unique geographical, cultural and community context of the service with sessions being offered in a variety of settings such as Community Gardens, Wynnum Manly Foreshore, and Environmental Parks.
LINK delivery is flexible both in terms of timing and location, with events extended through to school holidays specifically for school age children. The activities support children’s learning through investigation and exploration of the natural environment.
All high-quality sessions are delivered by qualified and experienced providers. The activities extend on the individualised programs offered by educators in their own family day care environments and include a mixture of one-off and continuous weekly activities.
There are multiple benefits for the children who attend LINK; boosting children’s skills including increased attention span, physical skills, turn taking and waiting, participating in a larger group, following directions, problem solving and communication skills.
We have high expectations for children’s and educators’ learning, and we work together to understand barriers to learning and promote inclusion. Although the children would never think about all these skills because their priority is to play and have fun!
There are no additional costs for families or educators to attend LINK.
